Dearest Friends, My husband and I and our 2 teenage children had the honor of attending your June 30th concert at the Miner’s Museum in Glace Bay. We were on a week long vacation traveling in and around Cape Breton. Even through the rain and fog, we recognized the profound beauty surrounding us! But certainly the greatest highlight of it all was to hear your music! The day before, we had gone on a whale watch and were fortunate to see at least a dozen fin whales. As thrilling as that was, I want you to know that the site of a thousand whales could not have moved us more than the sound of your voices! That you keep the coal miner culture alive for so many to learn about is significant. Though my family has no direct connection to the trade matters not. What does matter is that we remember to pay homage to every worker who has ever put their life on the line on behalf of someone else. On the high seas? On a steel frame many stories high? Working on road construction or high tension wires? Your songs touch the heart of anyone who has ever had such an association with dangerous conditions. In particular, I want to thank you for your last song – “You Raise Me Up”. It gives honor to the One who protects us all. Bless you! Cindy

My daughter belongs to Young Singers and sang with the Men of the Deeps in Glace Bay in July of 2007. It was the most moving experience that I have ever been a part of and I know it is an experience that Stephanie will never forget. I thank you for that. I would also like to share that we had a male member of our choir that was very quiet and nervous when he was up on stage. When one of the miners put their helmet on his head while singing “Rise Again”, I thought he was going to burst with pride. Keep up the great work, you truly are an amazing group of men. My Great Grandfather was Thius Tutty. Until he died in 1976 (buried in Cape Breton) he may have been the last living pick axe coal miner of his generation. He lost the sight of one eye while employed in the Glace Bay coal mines. My hats off to all miners.
