Hi. To all you fantastic singers and ambassadors of mining people. A special thanks to Jerry for sending me the CDs. Diamonds in the Rough and Coal Fire in Winter. I’ve only had them for 2 days but the way I’m going they will soon be worn out. The words and music mean so much to miners and portray a true reflection of the conditions we worked in. As an ex-miner ( English ) I feel proud of all your great achievements. Miners have always had so much to offer to their communities. Bless you all, Bill.

Greetings from Manitoba. Thanks for the great concert in Brandon. We had a blast. The highlight was definitely when Uncle Gerald, Nipper, Mickey and Billy came out to the base and later to our house. We now know all the words to Northwest Passage so when you come back in April, we can join in!! The soldiers at the mess really enjoyed the entertainment, too! And Bill, Jillian (our youngest daughter) just thought the world of you and talks about you a lot!! Take care and see you in Killarney in April.

Hi guys! I was pleasantly surprised to find this web site. We just got the internet two days ago and I couldn’t wait to see if I could find something like this. A big “Hi” to John and Nipper from us and mom (Margie). Nipper, I heard your duet with Rita (“Immigrant Eyes”) and it brought tears to my eyes. Keep up the great job guys. You do us proud!!! Love Cheryl

Men of the Deeps is a fabulous group. We caught them this past summer at the Museum. For the rest of our drive tour of Nova Scotia, cars passing us got to here favorites like “Dust in the air..all through the mine..” Have you ever thought of doing a tour in the US. I know that interest in New England, especially around Boston, would be very high among union/labor groups local and regional. They would probably cover most of the costs and them some. Any chance? Thanks. Dennis Michaud Boston, Mass.

Hello from a born-and-bred Nova scotian living in toronto! I had the distinct privilege of seeing the Men of the deeps in concert in 1989. that year I was given a copy of their original songbook for christmas and had it transcribed into braille for my personal use. there are so many great entries it is almost impossible to choose specific favourites. the book contains the words and music for the guitar. a friend of mine who used to come to the CNIB to serve tea would often ask me to sing a particular song the Men of the deeps recorded and which is also an entry in the songbook. It is “the Omen” and is a beautiful song based on a true story. there are only two verses recorded on tape, but all five verses appear in the book and I have memorized it. thanks for a great page. recently I was given the latest CD, “coal fire in winter”, which is also a fine collection. By any chance, does anyone know who recites that lovely poem “Who are They”, which is the second last cut on the disk?

We were at one of your concerts at the Louisbourg Playhouse 2 years ago and can’t wait to hear another concert. The night we were there, the guy who was supposed to bring the tapes and CDs forgot to bring them, and we really wanted to buy one. They were supposed to be available at Sam the Record Man, but we couldn’t find them in Windsor. Last year when we were on vacation in Alberta, we finally found some Men of the Deeps music at the West Edmonton Mall. We really hope you guys will be coming to Windsor, Ontario some day soon.

I try and see The Men of the Deeps every time they come to Ontario. They still bring tears to my eyes. When I feel homesick, I put one of their tapes or CDs on in the car or at home and I feel a bit closer to Cape Breton.

I’m trying to find the two CD’s. We hear them last year in Toronto’s Massy hall, and they were GREAT !! All that was for sale was one tape and T-shirts. I know that at lest there are two CD’s. but I can’t find them. I live in Bolton Ontario which is just outside of Toronto, so if you can direct me to a record shop or web site that retails the CD’s I’ll buy both for my wife for Xmas. Thanks..
