I originally come from Scottish/Welsh shipbuilders/coal miners and had the privilege of attending your concert at the Glace Bay Auditorium in July 1988. Your choir and the movie How Green Is My Valley are my traditional ties to my homeland. I sincerely hope that all of the life stories of all of the members of the Men of the Deeps Choir over the many years, can be encased in one huge book about the lives and histories of each of the coal miners in the choir as memorabilia for all time. I finally got to see “The Men of the Deeps”, North Bay, Ontario on May 10th. I had been gone from New Waterford when this group was formed, my mother told me about the group and gave me an LP of them (early 70s) and this was the firs time I had the chance to see and HEAR the choir. North Bays “Capitol Centre” was full and it seemed to me that everyone enjoyed the performance as much as I did. Canada Day, 2000 I heard “The Men” perform in Elliott Lake, Ontario. The whole experience impressed me so that I vowed to bring them to Timmins, Ontario and low and behold, we are now into negotiations to do just that. August 10,11,12, 2001 will be the First Annual Porcupine Miners Festival in Timmins, Ontario and The Men would be the supreme topper for all of us in this gold mining town. I am very hopeful that we will work out a plan to have The Men visit us and enjoy the festival as well as perform for my community. They will “Blow them away” just as they do to all thier audiences. The quality of their performance and the love of their craft touched my heart …..I listen to their music daily and have come to know it well. I feel like they are old friends ! Great to find this site, have been wanting to order cd’s of the group ever since I heard them perform in St. John’s, NF in the summer of 2000. My husband is one of the “Submarine Miners” choral group from Bell Island, they also performed at the same concert, and were so proud to be on the bill with the wonderful “Men of the Deeps”. It’s still a great memory for all of us! We hope to see them in Newfoundland again some day.

Hi folks! Its been almost 20 yrs. since Terry and I have left Cape Breton. Three teen agers later, we still listen to the “old” recordings of The Men Of The Deeps. I have three scrap books full of memoribilia from the first 20 years! Of course with Dad being a charter member, the choir has a special place in our hearts. Our 14 yr. old daughter Kathleen, thinks there’s no music like the “coal miners”! She’s a real fan and I wish she had been around years ago to share in the fun times that we had. Its great to see you on the net, what a wonderful way to communicate! We think of you often, Mom is living here in Dartmouth in a wonderful apartment complex and often times she wonders about “the guys from the chorus”….so from all of us Watts and Hills……hello, all the best and God Bless everyone! Hi Yoggie, how are you?? I am your distant cousin or something like that, I have been building my family tree and have discovered that all Muises are related!! you and I like all other Muises are direct descendants of Philippe Mius (Muise)D’Entremont Baron of Acadia. My dad was born in Yarmouth County and I was born in New Waterford, Cape Breton!I am a singer/musician ( base baritone)as well! I am organizing a movement across Canada to re-unite all Acadians with the intentions of forcing the British Government to offer up an appology for their crimes and actions against the peoples of former Acadia, and to recind the order of deportation and offer some sort of compensation as well! I really believe in this,and it is my burning coonviction to accomplish this in my life!! I hope to accomplish this in time for the World Acadian Congress 2004 in Nova Scotia. If I have my way,and I will there will be cause for great celebration on that day!! I have been in touch with “Blou” and have made some requests of them as well!! I would be honoured to meet with you and maybe produce some muiseic(pun) that speaks of our movement and our contribution to Canada.. I look forward to hearing from you soon!!
