Would love to see a live concert. Will have to check the website more often for upcoming concerts in our area. We missed seeing a concert when we toured the Maritimes and were in Nova Scotia/ Cape Breton during Celtic Colors in 2006. My husband worked underground in the Crowsnest Pass Mines so has mining experience and history. We read in the paper after the group had performed at the Grand Union Hotel in Coleman. My wife and I had the opportunity to come to your concert in Trail. What a wonderful experience, especially when you sang the song about Bevan. I had an Uncle and Aunt that lived there during the early 50’s and they used to take us to the baseball games between the miners and other local teams. My Uncle did’t work the Beavan mine but he did work at the number 8 Puntledge mine about eight miles away. Your whole performance brought many fond memories back of the times when I was very young. I just saw your concert in Trail. Fabulous absolutely fabulous. One of your members called your concert a rollercoaster and they were right. I laughed, smiled and even cried. My parents were born in raised in Nova Scotia, I have been to visit only twice and can’t wait for my next trip. Just listening to you sing brings back all the beautiful memories I have of visiting that beautiful province. I wasn’t born their but I think some of it is in my blood. The first time I saw you in concert I was prepared to listen to the music and I fully expected that it was going to be an evening of enjoyment, I was not however prepared for the emotional impact. I lost my father almost 15 years ago, and I miss him as much today as the day he went to be with God. Around the time of your concert I was struggling with the fact that I could no longer clearly recall the little things, the sound of his voice, the smell of his shaving cream, the movements of his being. Then during the concert, as I was wrapped up in the sheer joy of listening to the singing, John McLeod stepped off the stage and danced! In a split second I was a child again and my father was doing the same dance in the middle of the kitchen , I could hear him sing and I could feel the joy of his being. You see my father danced the same way. He danced for us in the kitchen, early in the morning, late at night, whenever his heart was filled with joy. Itís a special memory for me to remember him so healthy and happy. Tonight you played in Kamloops. I was there with two of my siblings. I had told them of the dancing (I didnít want them to cry in public like I did). Tonight when John McLeod danced, there were three of us smiling with tears in our eyes. I wanted to go and speak with John and tell him how much happiness he has brought me, but I am still very emotional when I speak of Dad and I did not want to fall apart. I may never get another opportunity to tell him in person, but I canít let another day go by without saying thank you. Thank you for the music, the dancing and the joy.

I attended your concert in 100 Mile last night. Listening to your wonderful music I wondered at how I knew so little and was so unconnected to mining life and culture. Then I remembered the stories of my great grandfather Harry Carr — killed in the Hillcrest Mine disaster. It was a reminder of all the tangled roots forming family and how complex our heritage can be. When I saw your Hillcrest pictures on this website I had to say thank you. Blessings on you all!

I recently found the Nova Scotia Mining site and heard you singing with Rita MacNeil and as I sat here listening, tears were streaming down my face. I hope to someday get back to Nova Scotia to hear your group in person. My mother’s family of Leadbetter’s had a few ancestors who were miners, some in Springhill, others in Cape Breton (Wilsons). Thank you for your sacrifices so those of us descended from miners have the life we do because of what all of you do! God Bless Each & Every One!
