Thank you so much for your concert last night in Sarnia. It’s the first time I have been able to attend any of your concerts, and I enjoyed every minute of your performance, and will be looking forward to a return visit from you. What a lot of fellowship you must have enjoyed over the years of singing together. Your singing brought back many memories for me of that other Land of Song and Coal Mines – South Wales, home of many male voice choirs. (I think there used to be one in every mining town, and concerts and singing festivals were a part of the fabric of every community.) All the instrumentalists were excellent too, but I especially enjoyed the harmonica – I don’t think I’ve ever heard it played with so much feeling. I had never before thought of Cape Breton as a land of song, but I think I will from now on. Men of the Deeps, keep on singing!! God Bless you all. Dilys Denning

I saw the Men of the Deeps concert in OAKVILLE, Ontario last night. I must say I was impressed with what I heard and saw last night. I also had a chance to talk to one of the singer’s last night after the concert. It was a chance to personalize the experience for myself as I know of an individual that was personally trapped and recovered from that mining incident in SPRINGHILL in the 1950’s. Personally they never talked about their experience but the songs last night certainly reinforce on how dangerous their work is but well aware of the risks involved in this line of work. Keep up the good work!!!!!!!

Saw your concert last night in Oakville as a guest of my daughter Harmony. What a magical evening. The tears started rolling the minute The Men started singing their way down the aisle, by the light only of their mining lights. My grandfather was a Cape Breton coal miner and it was incredibly special to sit with my 21 year old daughter, gaining a glimpse of the trials, dangers, and enduring spirits of the men who toil underground for a living. It is our roots and we loved every second of the comedy, music and emotion. Well done. You make us all so proud to be Canadian!

When you all came to The Church of Our Lady in Guelph I was no more then 12 years of age. I never in my life enjoyed myself as much as I did that night. When I was home for Christmas this year I heard that the choir was going to be breaking up. Is this true?!!??? I can’t imagine there not bing a Men of the Deeps. My uncle Robbie (MacLeod) was in the chior. The last time I saw him before he passed was on a Rita MacNeil special a few years back. I always enjoyed catching a glimpse of him when you were performing. (Shane too). If the choir is breaking up / retiring will you be making any stops in Toronto? The first time that I heard the track “Emigrant Eyes”, it made me think back to when my parents emigrated from Holland. It made me realize the hardships that people went through in their journey and when they arrived at their “new” homeland. With all the songs, they present a strong visual story for the mind to view. All the music is touching to the soul for the hardships of miners.

Hi Nipper, Just wanted to tell you my girlfriend and I saw Rita MacNeil in Winnipeg tonight and really missed The Men of the Deeps. It just wasn’t the Christmas treat we envisioned–we were even seated in the 2nd row and last year were in row 7. At the end of the evening last year you guys stood and greeted concert goers in the portal we came through tonight. And to this day I really regret not just “busting” through to shake your hands ansd say Merry Christmas. So, this year I decided to wish you, Nipper, and all the Men a Happy Holiday season. Shall continue to check your website and hope to see Winnipeg on the list. I’ll be front row for sure. Just love your music. Hey guys, Sorry it’s taken so long to respond, but it’s been real hectic with work and such.
