Centrepointe Theatre
A coverall-clad choir of working and retired coal miners from Cape Breton, the Men of the Deeps have been entertaining audiences for over half a century from beneath their humble hard hats. This year marks their first solo Christmas tour with Yuletide surprises in addition to old favorites.
The group formed in an effort to preserve in song the rich folklore and heritage of the island’s coal mining communities, in time to celebrate Canada’s centennial year in 1967. Fifty years later, we commemorate our country’s landmark birthday alongside this same working-class chorus, with their repertoire full of Celtic chanteys, salt-of-the-earth verses, and a swell of seasonal treats, festive folk tales and odes to family and friendship.
