Hi fellows – just dropped in and was surprised at the new site. It looks great and its nice to see new photos. Disappointed not to see southern Ontario on your tour dates yet – hope you’re saving Nov-Dec for coming our way again. We really enjoyed the last tour. Adrian’s doing well tho he has developed diabetes but it is under control. He says to say hi to all of you. We were at a JP Cormier house concert a few weeks ago and saw Hilda and JP. It was a very relaxed and intimate concert and was great. Will be seeing him again early May in Stratford. Take care everyone, enjoy the summer and hope to see you soon. Adrian and Shirl

It wold be amazing to be able to, in some small way, include you in our weding plans (as in having our guests attend your show that evening at the Museum or some such thing). Hi to you all My Mother in law, Beatrice Bowser and I made the short trip to Sackville NB to enjoy the concert you had at the University with Rita MacNeil. This is the third time we have enjoyed your music and each time it gets better. My father who recently passed away was a miner in his early working life and he had the opportunity to see you perform a few years ago and also had a quick conversation with some of the men during the intermission. Of course he spoke of that for many months after. I thought about him during this recent show and I am glad I was able to attend again to enjoy your music. Its great to see such talent. I am looking forward to your next concert in my neck of the woods. Take care and God bless Emily

I finally got to see “The Men of the Deeps”, North Bay, Ontario on May 10th. I had been gone from New Waterford when this group was formed, my mother told me about the group and gave me an LP of them (early 70s) and this was the firs time I had the chance to see and HEAR the choir. North Bays “Capitol Centre” was full and it seemed to me that everyone enjoyed the performance as much as I did. Actually “performance” does not seem like the correct word, the guys were there and they sang and told a few storied—just for us. A VERY VERY GOOD EVENING. Thanks guys, keep up the good work.

Canada Day, 2000 I heard “The Men” perform in Elliott Lake, Ontario. The whole experience impressed me so that I vowed to bring them to Timmins, Ontario and low and behold, we are now into negotiations to do just that. August 10,11,12, 2001 will be the First Annual Porcupine Miners Festival in Timmins, Ontario and The Men would be the supreme topper for all of us in this gold mining town. I am very hopeful that we will work out a plan to have The Men visit us and enjoy the festival as well as perform for my community. They will “Blow them away” just as they do to all thier audiences. The quality of their performance and the love of their craft touched my heart …..I listen to their music daily and have come to know it well. I feel like they are old friends ! Best wishes to all and thanks for the web site….it’s great to share this common admiration.

Hi folks! Its been almost 20 yrs. since Terry and I have left Cape Breton. Three teen agers later, we still listen to the “old” recordings of The Men Of The Deeps. I have three scrap books full of memoribilia from the first 20 years! Of course with Dad being a charter member, the choir has a special place in our hearts. Our 14 yr. old daughter Kathleen, thinks there’s no music like the “coal miners”! She’s a real fan and I wish she had been around years ago to share in the fun times that we had. Its great to see you on the net, what a wonderful way to communicate! We think of you often, Mom is living here in Dartmouth in a wonderful apartment complex and often times she wonders about “the guys from the chorus”….so from all of us Watts and Hills……hello, all the best and God Bless everyone! Love, Dianne

Hi Yoggie, how are you?? I am your distant cousin or something like that, I have been building my family tree and have discovered that all Muises are related!! you and I like all other Muises are direct descendants of Philippe Mius (Muise)D’Entremont Baron of Acadia. My dad was born in Yarmouth County and I was born in New Waterford, Cape Breton!I am a singer/musician ( base baritone)as well! I am organizing a movement across Canada to re-unite all Acadians with the intentions of forcing the British Government to offer up an appology for their crimes and actions against the peoples of former Acadia, and to recind the order of deportation and offer some sort of compensation as well! I really believe in this, and it is my burning coonviction to accomplish this in my life!! I hope to accomplish this in time for the World Acadian Congress 2004 in Nova Scotia. If I have my way,and I will there will be cause for great celebration on that day!! I have been in touch with “Blou” and have made some requests of them as well!! I would be honoured to meet with you and maybe produce some muiseic(pun) that speaks of our movement and our contribution to Canada.. I look forward to hearing from you soon!! Goodhealth and God bless Mike alt email: bladeworx@excite.com

Hi. To all you fantastic singers and ambassadors of mining people. A special thanks to Jerry for sending me the CDs. Diamonds in the Rough and Coal Fire in Winter. I’ve only had them for 2 days but the way I’m going they will soon be worn out. The words and music mean so much to miners and portray a true reflection of the conditions we worked in. As an ex-miner ( English ) I feel proud of all your great achievements. Miners have always had so much to offer to their communities. Bless you all, Bill.

Men of the Deeps is a fabulous group. We caught them this past summer at the Museum. For the rest of our drive tour of Nova Scotia, cars passing us got to here favorites like “Dust in the air..all through the mine..” Have you ever thought of doing a tour in the US. I know that interest in New England, especially around Boston, would be very high among union/labor groups local and regional. They would probably cover most of the costs and them some. Any chance? Thanks. Dennis Michaud Boston, Mass.

Hello from a born-and-bred Nova scotian living in toronto! I had the distinct privilege of seeing the Men of the deeps in concert in 1989. that year I was given a copy of their original songbook for christmas and had it transcribed into braille for my personal use. there are so many great entries it is almost impossible to choose specific favourites. the book contains the words and music for the guitar. a friend of mine who used to come to the CNIB to serve tea would often ask me to sing a particular song the Men of the deeps recorded and which is also an entry in the songbook. It is “the Omen” and is a beautiful song based on a true story. there are only two verses recorded on tape, but all five verses appear in the book and I have memorized it. thanks for a great page. recently I was given the latest CD, “coal fire in winter”, which is also a fine collection. By any chance, does anyone know who recites that lovely poem “Who are They”, which is the second last cut on the disk?

I enjoyed all of this and your concert at the Miners Museum when I was on holidays there, thanks to the Tighe brothers, and uncle Don Matheson, hope to see you in Victoria on your tour. Boy, your cd’s are hard to find in Nanaimo, I am glad you have this site, but it would sure be handy to be able to get your music locally.

We were at one of your concerts at the Louisbourg Playhouse 2 years ago and can’t wait to hear another concert. The night we were there, the guy who was supposed to bring the tapes and CDs forgot to bring them, and we really wanted to buy one. They were supposed to be available at Sam the Record Man, but we couldn’t find them in Windsor. Last year when we were on vacation in Alberta, we finally found some Men of the Deeps music at the West Edmonton Mall. We really hope you guys will be coming to Windsor, Ontario some day soon.

I try and see The Men of the Deeps every time they come to Ontario. They still bring tears to my eyes. When I feel homesick, I put one of their tapes or CDs on in the car or at home and I feel a bit closer to Cape Breton.

I’m trying to find the two CD’s. We hear them last year in Toronto’s Massy hall, and they were GREAT !! All that was for sale was one tape and T-shirts. I know that at lest there are two CD’s. but I can’t find them. I live in Bolton Ontario which is just outside of Toronto, so if you can direct me to a record shop or web site that retails the CD’s I’ll buy both for my wife for Xmas. Thanks..
