Wow! Who would have thot in Nov of 1966 that so much history would be made by you guys! Mom (Gertie Watts) and I often remember how my Dad (Dave) became a member! Mom saw the add in the CB Post, answered it, without Dad knowing! One day, he rec’d a letter informing him he had an audition for the “new coal mining choir” that was being formed to celebrate Canada’s 100th Anniversary! He didn’t know he even applied! Well, he auditioned and sang with the group for over 25 yrs. And the rest, as they say, is history. What a wonderful site this is. Some memorabilia from home, some nostalgic moments and lots of wonderful stories about you folks that we have passed on to our three (now grown!) children. Blessings and peace to you all as you share the wonders and gifts of that incredible Cape Bretoner Spirit.Love to allDianne and Terry Hill

Hello Men of the Deeps, I am from southern Maine and have been waiting years and years to hear you perform live, after my parents saw you in Glace Bay and brought home your albums. I love your songs…I shall not go to my grave without seeing you perform. Finally we have a chance to get up to see you. I used to sing along with your tape and somehow that inspired me to join our local chorus, the Royal River Chorus of Sweet Adelines. I loved it, and we became mid-size international bb-shop champs along the way, 2000 and 2002. In a way I have you to thank for having a part in putting me on an international stage. I also met my best friend in chorus…and the two of us are planning our maritime loop with your performance at the heart of it…we are so excited about seeing you. Thank you, Susan Elias

I am a BIG FAN of the group. You are great. I was born in New Waterford and my dad Andrew Copan worked for 20 years in the Pit # 12 and # 16. I just returned from vacation and saw you at the Savoy on the 10th of June and was moved. You brought tears to my eyes. I adore you guys and would like to know if you will be in Quebec or Ontario anytime to perform. Keep up the fantastic work of keeping the memories alive.

Hello I am writing to tell you that I am formerly from New Waterford and I hadn’t been back in 39 years . Two weeks ago I went to Cape Breton for a vacation and I had reserved tickets at the Savoy theatre for the concert June 6th. What a fantastic concert. I congratulate you all . I loved it and it brought tears to my eyes. My dad worked in the mines in New Waterford for 20 years. I also would like to thank Abbie at the Miner’s Museum. We went on his tour and it was SUPER. I always knew that my dad had a hard life in the mines but I never imagined how hard it really was. Anyway I won’t take more of your time but I thought i would just let you know that I LOVED YOUR SHOW , it warmed my heart. I purchased your CD’s and I love them. Thanks again. If ever you perform maybe in Ontario or Quebec I would love to see the performance but I guess you don’t come here. Bye for now Andrea PS is there a CD on which you sing the Song For The Mira.

Visited Glace Bay wayback in 1958.Was 12years old. Stayed withmy Dads Cousin, Graham Crocker. He worked in the” pit” formany years. The minewas out back of hishouse. I will never forget that he took egg salad every day for lunch and did sofrom the time he started working themine. I also went to a Bingo game at the Miners Forum, I think that was the name. What I remember the most, how friendly everyone was to their neighbours. They didnít even lock their doors. It may have been many years ago but to me it is like only yesterday.Of all the places I’ve ever been, and I have traveled to many places in my life time, there is NO Place like ‘Glace Bayí. You are truly a beautiful and veryloving people.Sue Sheppard

I originally come from Scottish/Welsh shipbuilders/coal miners and had the privilege of attending your concert at the Glace Bay Auditorium in July 1988. Your choir and the movie How Green Is My Valley are my traditional ties to my homeland. I sincerely hope that all of the life stories of all of the members of the Men of the Deeps Choir over the many years, can be encased in one huge book about the lives and histories of each of the coal miners in the choir as memorabilia for all time. Hope to see you perform the next time that you are here in Ottawa. God bless you all and thanks.
